One of the
social medias I have used and much enjoyed is LinkedIn. I enjoy LI because the
use is professional, everyone is talking business, or near business and the
users want to behave.
When you
begin to use LinkedIn, you register with our own name and put up your work
history. So this means you truly represent yourself and the company you work
for. A company or any kind of society is able to make themselves known through creating
themselves a LI page and being active.
So
should you use LinkedIn?
YES! As
said, LI is used for networking, so even if you are not looking for a new job
you can find wonderous discussions and new people in LI and LI has groups that
can be very supportive. And if you’re not looking for employment, through your
LI profile a recruiter can find you and contact you with an intriguing offer.
It is also a great place for you to begin building your personal brand, market
your abilities and your employers or companies products and services. But as
said, for me the main thing in LI is content that the other professionals
create. Just reading the content is a great way of staying up to date in the
latest trends in marketing, recruiting and all the fields you choose to include
in to your network.
Should
a company use LinkedIn?
Again, YES!
I am just repeating myself now, but the networking from the company employees
make the company known also. Social media managers are also a trending title in
LinkedIn and that just shows how important networking is for the business sales
wise and employer branding wise. So company decision makers, help your
professionals create their own personal brands and let them help our business!
For the
unfamiliar social media tool I chose Twitter. I have an account but truly have
no idea of how to use it, and most importantly why.
Why
should I spend my precious time in Twitter?
Twitter is
similar site to LinkedIn, but still more like Facebook in my opinion. People create
a user in Twitter mostly with their own name and companies with their brand
name. So in the same way as in LinkedIn they are representing their selves and
their companies. To communicate in Twitter the user creates a post called “Tweet”,
in Twitter the user can only use 140 characters in one Tweet. This makes this
social media unique. The users need to know how to summarize their thoughts in
to those allowed 140 characters and that is a challenge. In my personal opinion
the 140 character limit makes this specific social media platform too reactive,
the posts are made provocative and mostly only other users reactions in mind.
Still the user
base in huge, when you gain enough followers in Twitter it is highly easy to do
targeted marketing through this social media. Personal branding is also
possible through this media and there are so many examples on people who have
created a whole career from Twitter.
Suomen Poliisi in social media
LinkedIn:
Twitter
Poliisi
uses both social medias actively and has well identified the users and know how
to create content to both medias bearing in mind both medias different kind of
users. For example the dialect used in LI posts is more professional and has no
hastags and in Twitter there are appraisals and more common happenings and the
dialect is more relaxed.
Basware in social media
Basware has very similar posts in LI and in Twitter and is active in both medias. I would say that Basware concentrates the employer branding to LI than to Twitter, but as said the content is otherwise similar. In both medias Basware mostly inserts links to content outside the social media. In my opinion the Baswares way of doing employer branding is compelling in LI!
Social media for a company
Both
companies I chose as an example for this post are using social media as a tool
well. They know their audience and the different user bases in both medias
chosen.
What could
all companies learn from Poliisi and Basware:
- Know your audience in the media
- Promote your business
- Promote you employees and do employer branding
- Give information about current issues and act as an expert
How people in business use social media?
My personal
opinion is that many people in business do not dare to take the role of an
expert and that is the reason they are not active in social media. Or if they are
active, they comment on other peoples posts but mainly do not dare to make
their own posts. When being active in social media, you should always check
your spelling, try not to offend anyone and get your facts straight. With these
tips you will not go wrong. đ
Thank you for reading, I am looking forward for your comments!
